Why smart patients choose dental implants

untitled4   Dental implants are a replacement for a patients natural teeth, which can be lost due to tooth decay, disease in a patients gums, or injury. An implant is created from ultra strong
titanium post, which acts as a replicate for the tooth root, this is securely fitted to the jaw bone. A crown or  bridge is then attached to the titanium root , which acts as a substitute tooth for the patient. Your cosmetic dentist should explain the process to you fully and discuss the treatment process and plan.

Any patient who has lost a part of a whole of a tooth, has broken, weak or loose teeth would significantly benefit from dental implant treatment. If a person has suffered from oral trauma, would benefit from dental implant treatment to improve their bite. If you are concerned about losing a loose tooth, or you have damaged and missing teeth, cosmetic dentist will be able to identify the best treatment for you.

Broken , cracked or missing teeth can acutely  affect oral health and overall self confidence, this is because broken teeth are more susceptible to become irritated with inflammation and cause painful tooth decay. Missing teeth affects a persons bite badly, and can cause detrimental grinding down of a their teeth.

Dental implants are not always appropriate for all patients , as the titanium post will need to be secured upon a patients jaw bone. Bone tissue quality and gum
condition may prevent an implant from being safely secured and fitted for a patient. A cosmetic implant dentist will examine your mouth  before your treatment ,  to see whether  your are a appropriate candidate for dental implant treatment.

There are major benefits of having dental implants, they give a strong full set of natural looking , white and bright teeth.  They are more secure than dentures for a patient, so a patient will have better oral wellbeing. Dental implants can give a patient more confidence to smile,  knowing it is more attractive.

Many people are nervous of undergoing dental treatment, as they perceive it will be very painful. An experienced  cosmetic dentist should be able to reassure you, they will give patients local anaesthetic , so that a patient will not feel any pain during or after the implant procedure. As the anaesthetic wears off, a patient may feel some tenderness, and as the implants are healing there may be some swelling which can be combated with painkillers.

The implant dentist will be able to discuss how to reduce and treat pain or discomfort. An experienced cosmetic dentist should fully discuss the treatment plan and the process with a patient, so they will be fully  aware of the operation timescales.

Silver fillings can be unsightly when a patient smiles, tooth coloured composite can replace old metal fillings. Cosmetic bonding is suited to smaller cavities in a patients teeth, as the material is not suitable for large areas.

untitled1Composite bonding treatment requires the cosmetic dentist to numb the area in the patients mouth by local anaesthetic.
The patients tooth surface, which the composite will be applied, will be cleaned to remove debris, the composite requires
a hygienic surface to bond to. The dentist will then choose a correct shade of composite, the tooth is shaped or contoured by the dentist.
The composite is then applied to the roughened tooth surface and exposed to a special light source, which activates and hardens the composite to set. The composite can be applied to a patients tooth in several thin layers , around 1mm-2mm until  the dentist has achieved the desired shape, translucency and texture. The dentist will then use their skill to polish the composite to achieve the desired shape and level finish.

How dental implants dramatically improve a smile.

Teeth  can be lost at any time, due to trauma, decay, gum disease , age or deep root canals could force a dentist to decide to remove a tooth rather than repair. Many people who lose a tooth or teeth decide to replace it/them with either dentures or a fixed bridge in order to regain an aesthetically pleasing smile , as well as functional reasons.

Increasingly dental implants are becoming a popular treatment to replace any missing teeth, as they are able to provide a patient a longer term solution, slow bone loss and also preserve any healthy tooth tissue for a patient.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are artificial substitute for the root portion of a patients natural tooth, it is fixed and secured into a patients jaw-bone to support a crown, or bridge , and can also be used to fastened a patients denture securely.  New technology in implants means that titanium can now be used for this procedure, a material that not only is well tolerated by a patients jaw bone and is able to integrate easily.

During the securing of the dental implant, the cosmetic dentists’ goal is to achieve a close seal between the implant and the surrounding jaw bone tissue, so they are able to fuse together , called osseointegration, which creates a secure support for the new teeth.

How is a dental implant placed?

The cosmetic dentist will need to assess the health of a patients teeth and gums, this is important as they need  to expose any signs of gum disease or decay , which must initially be treated. The cosmetic dentist should then create a treatment plan, following x-rays and a CT scan, which aids to asses bone quality before any treatment takes place. The implant procedure can be carried out using local anaesthesia, and IV sedation can be used the procedure will be long or for anxious patients.

The patients gum is cut and lifted, where the implant will be secured, and a tiny hole is drilled in the jawbone at the exact location of the intended implant. The titanium implant is securely fitted into this socket, and the dentist will then stitch the gum back to cover the implant.

Once the implant has been fitted, it is left to restore , heal and integrate with the patients jawbone , which  takes around six weeks to  six months. This time period allows the bone tissue to grow and anchor itself to the rough surface of the titanium implant.
The patient will be given temporary teeth or bridges, or can continue to wear dentures, during this healing period. The temporary teeth should not exert any pressure or force upon the healing implant(s). The gum will be then lifted again to attach a post to the implant, after the healing period. Around six weeks up to a month , depending upon treatment, when the surrounding gum tissue has developed, the permanent restoration can be attached to the patients implant.

Dental implants are also able to give a patient improved function, the implants are able to fully assimilate into a patients jaw, and so able they are able to function as suitably as your own natural teeth. Wearing dentures can make eating tough foods challenging, as dentures can become loose or patients cannot endure the hard biting forces, which cause pain in the gums.

Denture patients may suffer irritation and inflammation of the gums, to correct this dentures can be supported through implants which are able to improve function, enabling a patient to eat all foods with complete confidence and not worry about problems of bone loss or loose dentures.

A patient may require a cosmetic  dental bridge treatment, to replace missing teeth,  and this requires the healthy teeth adjacent to the gap to be removed to be able to fit a crown or bridge over the top of the tooth.

A dental implant can help a patient, as no support is required of a patients natural teeth , so a patients natural teeth wont be altered and the healthy tooth structure will not be drilled.images

An cosmetic dental implant gives a patient much better appearance then dentures or alternatives, as a dental implant Is identical from a patients natural teeth. Dentures often become loose, look unnatural as they don’t fit with a patients gums, and may need to be held onto the teeth with conspicuous metal clasps.

Dental implants are able to provide a patient with a much better cosmetic result, and are more functional than any nearest alternative.

Dental Implants are durable.

Dental implants have been used for many years to replace missing teeth, they are the most advanced technology available to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are able to last a lifetime, however the implant durability will be affected by trauma caused to patients, gum disease and poor oral hygiene.
