Just as in other fields of healthcare and the wider world, technology is having an incredible effect on the world of dentistry. Our dentists are always looking to use new technology to improve the standard of dental treatment. New devices and tools are being developed all the time aiming to make treatment more effective and efficient, not to mention more comfortable for the patient. One of the most incredible new dentistry tools to have been developed is Cerec. This is a revolutionary new system of making dental crowns, veneers and inlays that is set to change the face of dentistry.Cerec is revolutionising the way dental treatments are being carried out and offer a glimpse into the future of dentistry.

Cerec utilises CAD/CAM technology, which stands for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacture and is vastly improving both the speed and quality of dental treatment. Cerec technology has been made possible by the development in other areas, such as digital x-rays and three-dimensional imaging. This allows dentists to create an exact image of the patient’s teeth, which they can see instantly on their computer screen. Using this image, they can then design veneers, crowns and inlays that can then be manufactured in a fraction of the time.

The manufacturing process also utilises the incredible powers of computer technology. Whereas in the past a crown would need to be manufactured in the lab by building up layer upon layer of enamel, a Cerec crown can be milled form a single block in as little as six minutes. This incredibly means that you can go into a dentist’s surgery and have a crown designed, manufactured and installed in the same appointment. For a procedure that could take as long as a month from start to finish in the past, this chair-side surgery represents a huge leap forward.

It is also possible to use Cerec technology to create a whole row of dental veneers that can completely transform a smile. Your dentist is now using Cerec technology to treat patients. Make an appointment to find out if you can benefit from the new technology at 07974106163

MAC Veneers For a Beautiful Smile

Wafer-thin porcelain veneers are one of cosmetic dentistry’s more recent inventions. The veneers are bonded onto the front of existing teeth with composite resin to restore the appearance of cracked, chipped or badly discoloured teeth. They are rapidly becoming one of the most common cosmetic dentistry treatments with  dentists because of the stunning results they produce and the incredible speed and minimal fuss of treatment.

Most people don’t think twice about the veneers they receive from their dentist; but, they should. All veneers are not created equal. Different brands vary in realism, strength, stain resistance, and length of life. It is important to work closely with laboratory technicians to create a beautiful smile that is custom tailored to you. MAC Veneers, Lumineers and other brands of porcelain veneers are different types of porcelain veneers that are designed to correct many different cosmetic problems that you may have with your smile.

They differ in how they appear on your teeth, and how they are created. MAC Veneers are created out of pressed ceramic porcelain, which MAC Veneers claims is stronger than any other type of porcelain. As a result MAC veneers are claimed to last longer and look more lifelike than any other porcelain veneer.Lumineers, on the other hand, are porcelain veneers created by Cerinate. Cerinate claims that Lumineers are strong enough so that they can be constructed to be as thin as a contact lens. They claim that Lumineers can be placed without anesthesia and without shaving any tooth material away.

MAC veneers offer the best combination of beauty, function and longevity.

* Beauty – MAC Veneers are created by artisans who understand and appreciate the nuances in color, luminosity and shape of natural teeth. Using up to 16 shades of white (while others use only four), MAC Veneers provide a unique level of natural beauty.
* Advanced Materials – MAC Veneers are made with high quality, pressed ceramics the latest, most advanced material available for cosmetic dentistry. In addition to enhancing the color and brightness of your smile, they can straighten and reshape your teeth to give them a more youthful appearance.
* Longevity – At least two times stronger than other veneer brands made with thinner, feldspathic ceramics. Because MAC Veneers are more durable, your new smile can last for years without cracking, chipping or changing color

With MAC Veneers and other porcelain veneers, in order ensure there is a seamless, natural feel and appearance, a small amount of tooth material must be removed. Lumineers claims this is not needed with their porcelain veneers.

All porcelain veneers are created to be placed over the front sides of your teeth in order to correct numerous aesthetic problems, including:

* Crooked Teeth
* Broken Teeth
* Stained Teeth
* Discolored Teeth
* Chipped Teeth
* Spaces Between Teeth
* Misshaped Teeth
* Disfigured Teeth
* Worn Teeth

The manufacture of porcelain veneers has been dramatically affected by the introduction of new technology. In the past, porcelain veneers needed to be measured using a system of dental moulds and x-rays. These were time-consuming processes, as was the laboratory conditions needed for their manufacture. Today, by using the latest in 3D imaging and digital x-rays, a dentist can use a computer to design and manufacture a porcelain veneer in as little as six minutes. This has significantly reduced treatment times and discomfort for patients.

It is now possible for dentists to design, manufacture and fit a whole dental arc of porcelain veneers in an afternoon. You could have a completely new and youthful set of teeth in just one day. Ask your dentist about the latest in porcelain veneer technology.

Ultra Thin Veneers-Lumineers

Lumineers are a special type of ultra-thin veneers by Cerinate. Just like traditional veneers, Lumineers can reshape your smile and give you that perfect smile makeover. They can cover gaps between teeth and enhance the appearance of worn-down and discoloured teeth.
The main difference is that Lumineers are made from a special patented cerinate porcelain that is very strong but much thinner than traditional laboratory-fabricated veneers. Their thickness is comparable to contact lenses, and so they are often called contact lenses for your teeth. The main advantage of these ultra-thin veneers is that minimal tooth preparation is required. In other words, very little – if any – of your natural tooth structure needs to be removed through shaving or grinding prior to bonding the Lumineers over your natural teeth. As a result, the procedure is often reversible, since your natural tooth structure is left intact, unlike traditional veneers, where a significant amount of your tooth structure may need to be removed. Click here read more about traditional veneers and the procedure involved. Lumineers are so versatile that they can be placed over existing crown and bridge work, without the need to replace them. They are the perfect solution for stained, chipped, discoloured or slightly misaligned teeth.

CAD Ceramics

The term all ceramics covers a variety of materials ,which differ quite considerably in the way they are processsed and in the type of properties they exhibit .Special type of materials are available for wide variety of requirements .As a result there are rapid developments in this feild.

Materials that can be processed using CAD-CAM equipment include silicate and oxide ceramics.The strength and stability are considered to be the most important properties.Generally ,highly resistant ceramics should be preffered because of their durability. Apart frombeing easier to process,ceramics of low strength demonstrate optical advantages,such as naturally looking tranlucency and fluorencence,which are of importance in places where highly aesthetic restorations are required.

Ivoclar vivadent has two lines of products IPS Empress and IPS e.max which offers ceramic materials for every clinical indication.

IPS Express CAD is a leucite glass ceramic .The ceramics uncomplicated handling and highly aesthetic appearance make up for its lack of strength.The blocks can be machined in a straight forward procedure using CEREC .The indications include inlays ,partial crowns and all ceramic anterior and posterior crowns and veneers.

IPS e.max CAD is alithium disilicate andcatagorized as silicate ceramic.It is a medium strength ceramic and has to undergo crstallization firing to obtain its final strength.It is mainly used to fabricate full crowns.

IPS e.max ZirCAD is based on yttrium-stabalized zirconium dioxide and is classified as oxide ceramic.It is one of the strongest dental ceramics with bending strength of around 900MPa . Most CAD-CAM machines are not capable of milling it to the final state.Therefore it is machined in what is known as “green state” and the sintered to obtain final strength.the materials high strength allows it to be used for almost every indication ,withncrowns and above all bridges being the most common indication.
