Performance Of CAD/CAM Restorations :CEREC

CEREC is a dental restoration product that allows a dental practitioner to produce an indirect ceramic dental restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies, including 3D photography and CAD/CAM. With CEREC, teeth can be restored in a single sitting with the patient, rather than the multiple sittings required with earlier techniques. Additionally, with the latest software and hardware updates, crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays can be prepared, using different types of ceramic material.CAD/CAM stands for computer aided design/computer aided manufacture and is causing a revolution in the world of manufacturing. These similar technologies are now being used to great effect in the world of dentistry. This has improved the cosmetic results for the patients and enabled the dentist to work more efficiently and reduced the need to see the patient on as many occasions.

The 3D representation of the mouth the computer is able to replicate allows it to build an exact ceramic copy of the drawings, so the crown will fit perfectly in the mouth. This greatly reduces the possibility for the teeth to shift after the procedure. The smaller space between teeth also reduces the risk of possible post-procedural infection. Because the CAD/CAM replications are so accurately sized it means they are often stronger, which has allowed dentists to reduce the amount of metal needed to sure up any restoration work. The treating dentist prepares the tooth being restored either as a crown, inlay, onlay or veneer. The tooth is then coated with a white powder, imaged by a 3D imaging camera and uploaded to the CEREC computer. Using the proprietary CEREC software in various modes, a restoration can be designed to restore the tooth to its appropriate form and function. This data on this restoration is stored in a file and is sent via wireless serial transmission or direct wiring to a milling machine. The restoration can then be milled out of a solid ceramic or composite block. Milling time varies from as little as four minutes to as long as twenty depending on the complexity of the restoration and the age of the milling unit.

The use of CAD/ CAM technology does not necessarily mean that the procedure will be prohibitively expensive, providing the dentist has all the necessary equipment in office. Our dentists using CAD/CAM technology are at the cutting edge of dentistry and are capable of producing cosmetically stunning dental repairs using the very latest technological equipment.

Dental Implants For A Beautiful Smile

Many people find it challenging to maintain a healthy level of confidence when they are suffering from the negative impacts of missing teeth. Not, only do missing teeth affect your confidence, but biting irregularities, caused by tooth loss can have a negative effect on eating habits and this can lead to secondary health problems like malnutrition. Most concerning is when teeth are missing from the jaw, the surrounding bone begins to shrink and eventually your jawbone will recede. Fortunately dental implants procedure provide a means of replacing lost or damaged teeth and combats the negative effects it has on both your confidence and health.

For many people dental implant treatment has been a permanent solution to missing teeth. Despite the nature of the problem related with tooth loss, dental implant treatment can provide a simple solution with proven results. Although there are a number of restorative alternatives for missing teeth, none have proven to be as functional and effective as dental implants. For high compatibility, dental implant procedures are customises to each patient, offering a full dental implant and now with procedural advancements a mini dental implant.

Where tooth loss can be combated using either a dental implant or dentures, the decision between which to choose can be a difficult one. While dentures offer an elegant solution for those people suffering from a severe loss of underlying bone structure, dental implants provide patients with a more stable, secure and comfortable alternative. Although dental implants can incur greater initial cost, the improvements in strength greatly increase within the mouth, allowing for greater chewing ability and ease of fluent speech. What natural bone remains can be preserved with greater efficiency and therefore increase the overall support of your facial muscles and tissue and is therefore often considered to be the most efficient and beneficial investment where tooth loss is concerned. For more information on dental implants please call Goma Dental at 177-645-0704.

CEREC Crowns

While dental crowns are one of our most common procedures, they are also one of the procedures offering the most benefit to patients.

Crowns
are a type of dental restoration that when cemented into place, fully cover the portion of the tooth above the gum line. Because a crown encases the entire visible aspect of a tooth, it effectively becomes part of the tooth’s new outer surface.

Crowns can be made out of porcelain, metal or a combination of both. Most patients today prefer porcelain crowns due to their natural appearance. As new technology and materials science has evolved, computers are increasingly becoming a part of crown and bridge fabrication, such as in CAD/CAM technology. The CEREC method of fabricating all-ceramic restorations is by electronically capturing and storing a photographic image of the prepared tooth and, using computer technology, crafting a 3D restoration design that conforms to all the necessary specifications of the proposed inlay, onlay or single-unit crown; there is no impression. After selecting the proper features and making various decisions on the computerized model, the dentist directs the computer to send the information to a local milling machine.

We would generally recommend a crown to restore a tooth to its original shape, to strengthen a tooth or to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth. We will make an impression of your tooth and a dental laboratory will create the crown. You may wear a temporary crown until the permanent crown is prepared. Once ready, the permanent crown will be cemented onto your tooth. The latest technique being Metal-free restorations where restoration can be placed in an hour. Dr. Goma at Goma dental ,Shimla  can explain how dental crowns can make your teeth look natural and beautiful.

Dental Implants – Threaded Expanders For Bone Expansion

People lose teeth all the time, either through trauma (when teeth are knocked out) or due to decay, gum disease or old age. Whatever the reason for losing your teeth, they need to be replaced, both for aesthetic and functional reasons. The most common treatments for missing teeth are either a denture or a fixed bridge. However, dental implants are now becoming a more popular treatment to replace missing teeth, as they provide a longer-term solution, slow down bone loss and preserve nearby healthy tooth tissue.

Threaded expanders are another group of instruments for bone expansion. They work by rotation, which differentiate them from the osteotomes, which work by impactation. Threaded expanders have an aggressive conical shape and penetrate the bone easily. The principal advantage is that they are less traumatic to the patient and that they can be used in the lower jaw. The rotation movement can be done with a wheel inserted in the back part of the expander, or if more resistance is present, with a racket wrench.

The principal disadvantage is that is easier to loose the direction of the preparation compared to the osteotomes. Anyway, in both cases an adequate training is important.

In most usual cases, where the expansion needed is not so important, the expanders can be work well. In more extreme cases, is usually necessary to split the ridge first and the make the expansion.

Immediate dental implant techniques

Dental implants are an increasingly popular choice for my patients as I’ve been doing a lot of them recently.
Just recently we’ve had an unusual number of patients coming in with serious problems with single front teeth.
Among the causes of these problems are

* sports injuries (eg getting hit in the face playing cricket)
* ‘other’ injuries (eg falling down the stairs or sliding on the ice)
* old crowns that have failed and cracked the root
* problems with old crowns with posts
* problems with root filled teeth

In these cases extraction is often the only option. In the past we would have had to wait months after extracting the tooth before putting the implant in, and then a few more months of waiting before the implant could have a tooth added to it…..6-9 months of waiting with a temporary bridge in place….With Immediate Implant techniques(also known as ‘teeth in an hour’) we can often bypass this waiting time: If the bone is intact around the failing tooth and there is no infection present then we can (very) carefully extract the root (without damaging the socket walls) and put an implant directly into the tooth socket! And if the implant is secure in the bone then we can even put the titanium post into place and put a temporary crown on top.

Where appropriate this treatment means that the patient can literally come to the clinic with a failed tooth and leave a short while later with their new implant tooth in place. So it is possible to walk into a dental clinic and have all your old broken, unsightly teeth replaced with shiny white new ones supported by titanium implants all on the same day ,provided the case has been prepared carefully in advance.

We now have enough long term data (over 5 yrs) to convince even the more conservative of us that;

* immediate implant teeth work in the long term
* in some cases doing it this way can improve the aesthetic outcome
* this method can significantly reduce bone the bone shrinkage which occurs when teeth are extracted.
* the immediate implant technique can be used on single, multiple or full mouth cases

VELscope:Oral Cancer Screening System

The average dentist will see three to five patients a day who exhibit soft tissue abnormalities. Cheek biting, canker sores and lesions from poor fitting dentures are some examples of tissue trauma that we witness daily. Though these lesions are benign they share similarities with dangerous lesions.  It is up to us the dental professional to distinguish between the two. We are very fortunate to be able to offer VELscope to our patients.
VELscope is an oral cancer screening system.  This technology was developed in collaboration with the British Columbia Cancer Agency and MD Anderson Cancer Center, with funding provided by the NIH. It is quite unfortunate that only 35% of oral cancer cases are diagnosed in earlier stages.  Early diagnosis can increases the 5 year survival rate form 52% to 90%.  With the help of VELscope we can detect potentially dangerous growths beneath the surface that we may not have detected with our conventional oral screening exam. An incandescent light used to enhance the visualization of oral tissue abnormalities.  The fluorescence changes in the tissue enable us to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. The VELscope technology is the only non-invasive adjunctive device clinically proven to help discover occult oral disease.
India has one of the highest incidence of Oral cancer in the world. The high incidence of oral cancer and oral pre-cancerous lesions in India has long been linked with the habit of betel quid chewing incorporating tobacco.
Oral cancer ranks number one among men and number three among women in India. Oral cancer constitutes 12% of all cancers in men and 8% of all cancers among women.  “There are about 7,00,000 new cases of cancers every year in India out of which tobacco related cancers are about 3,00,000. Cost of treatment of oral cancer is about 3.5 lakh. This can be completely prevented by simple changes in lifestyle and regular screening and even have health benefits that reach beyond cancer.” For more information on cancer screening call Goma dental at 177-645-0704.

Healthy Food For Teeth

Just as eating the right food is good for your general well being, it can also be good for your oral hygiene. Educating children and teenagers about the right foods to eat can help develop beneficial eating habits for the rest of their lives. There are some obvious choices about what to eat and what to avoid but it really can make a huge difference and help prevent a future of dental problems.

The foods that you eat will all come into contact with the 400 million or so bacteria that live in your mouth, and find conditions there perfect for breeding. If teeth are not brushed and flossed on a regular basis then a filmy bacteria laden substance called plaque builds up on the teeth, which will eventually cause tooth decay and even gum disease.

Plaque thrives on sugars and starches found in most food combining with it to create acid which attacks tooth enamel. According to studies by the American Dental Association, this acid attacks the enamel for twenty minutes or longer after eating. So eating food with the minimal amount of sugar and starch can help protect your teeth. This may sound easier than it actually is however, as fruits, milk, bread, vegetables and many other foods contain starch.

The best way to protect against starchy foods is to drink plenty of water, brush your teeth twice a day and floss, which will limit the impact of starch and plaque. Try to avoid food that is unnecessarily sugary such as soft drinks which have high content of carbon dioxide.

There are some foods which can be good for the teeth. Nuts, which are rich in magnesium, and any food containing calcium (dairy products) can all help promote strong teeth.  Goma dental will be able to provide you with further information about which foods to eat and which to avoid.

TMJ Disorders

If you notice a popping sound when you open your mouth, it may be time to ask your dentist about treatments for TMJ disease. In a similar way, if you tend to have headaches, facial pain, or neck pain they may all be cause by some type of malfunction of your jaw joints. Fortunately, when you visit a dentist, you will be able to receive treatment that will ease, or even eliminate your pain altogether.

In order to begin treatment, your doctor may need to conduct some tests in order to determine the cause of your jaw pain. Typically, this will involve taking xrays, as well as asking you a series of questions. Your dentist may also want to do some additional testing to see if the pain is being caused by gum disease, or other issues that cause refractory pain in the facial nerves.

Once your dentist is able to find the cause of your pain, it will be possible to treat your condition. This may include providing you with a mouth guard to prevent teeth grinding. If your dentist determines that misaligned teeth are causing your jaw pain, you may need to have braces, or other devices that will move your teeth into the correct position. Today, there are a number of dental alignment aides that cannot even be seen, let alone felt while you are wearing them.

When seeking treatment for jaw pain, it is important to realize that there are several major nerves that run through your face and neck. As a result, your pain may actually be located in the jaw, or in some other area. Therefore, your dentist will need to eliminate a number of possible issues with diagnostic testing in order to solve your problem. Fortunately, you will find that treatment for TMJ disorders will not be any worse or distressing than any other procedure designed to improve your dental health.
