Dental Tourism Market

Dental tourism is a broadly defined industry which is influenced by a multitude of factors.
On a macroeconomic scale, medical tourism is affected by many factors including demographics, technologicalchange, globalization, geopolitical trends, and economic trends.

On a microeconomic scale, this niche industry is affected by a multitude of supply and demand factors
including consumer demand, cost factors, and local, regional, or national factors including economic policy, political environment, regulations, infrastructure, capital investment, and destination marketing.Recent changes in the global economy have significantly impacted the market. By understanding the factorswhich affect the dental tourism industry, we have gained insight into which segment(s) of the dental tourism market we are capable of serving, which type of consumers make up that segment, and what structural changes will need to be made in order to better attract and serve those consumers.

Market Needs
Medical tourism is a rapidly growing industry. Long NHS waiting lists and expensive private care have meantthat 2.65 million Britons have recently been or are planning to go abroad for medical procedures. TakingAdvantage of Trend Shifts in the Dental Tourism Industry

Despite headwinds, industry experts expect the growth of dental tourism to continue at a rate of at least 35% annually (Deloitte, 2009). With future trends showing an increased demand for healthcare worldwide, as well as an increasing trend toward the globalization of healthcare, there is significant revenue opportunity for firms catering to this market, as well as for cities, states, and countries which foster the growth of the industry within their borders. The healthcare and tourism industries, as well as the regions in which they operate, will need to adjust to and account for changing trends in the market for dental tourism. Of particular importance will be the shifts which are taking place due to respective differences across borders use to economic and geopolitical events.

The economic changes taking place within developed and underdeveloped nations will have a profound impact on the market for cross-border healthcare, as well as for regional or local care. Such changes will most likely have a large impact on the choices made by governments, institutions, and individuals, and will impact the demand for and supply of healthcare on a global scale. In addition, these changes in the market will be marked by a change in attitudes toward international and domestic dental travel, as it gains increased media attention and becomes more widely used.

ImageThe hospitality and tourism markets will be affected not just by trends in supply and demand, but by the economic and geopolitical parameters set by governments worldwide. In order to enter the market, an understanding of the impact that international trade agreements and government participation will have on the market globally, and on specific regions, will be essential. These factors should be kept in mind when considering the potential success of a dental tourism destination.

In a recession, markets may consolidate, eliminating weaker businesses and providing market opportunities through mergers and acquisitions. In addition, slower economic times may lead businesses to develop partnerships and strategic alliances, and to innovate to reduce costs and capture market share. With healthcare reform being debated in the U.K., combined with sovereign debt and strains on social security and retirement funds, this is the time when policymakers and industry leaders will be discussing options to lower costs and increase revenues. With the dialogue and debate being brought to the forefront, we might see changes come about which will reduce barriers to the dental tourism market.

Why smart patients choose dental implants

untitled4   Dental implants are a replacement for a patients natural teeth, which can be lost due to tooth decay, disease in a patients gums, or injury. An implant is created from ultra strong
titanium post, which acts as a replicate for the tooth root, this is securely fitted to the jaw bone. A crown or  bridge is then attached to the titanium root , which acts as a substitute tooth for the patient. Your cosmetic dentist should explain the process to you fully and discuss the treatment process and plan.

Any patient who has lost a part of a whole of a tooth, has broken, weak or loose teeth would significantly benefit from dental implant treatment. Missing teeth affects a persons bite badly, and can cause detrimental grinding down of a their teeth.

Dental implants are not always appropriate for all patients , as the titanium post will need to be secured upon a patients jaw bone. Bone tissue quality and gum
condition may prevent an implant from being safely secured and fitted for a patient. A cosmetic implant dentist will examine your mouth  before your treatment ,  to see whether  your are a appropriate candidate for dental implant treatment.

As the anaesthetic wears off, a patient may feel some tenderness, and as the implants are healing there may be some swelling which can be combated with painkillers.

The implant dentist will be able to discuss how to reduce and treat pain or discomfort. An experienced cosmetic dentist should fully discuss the treatment plan and the process with a patient, so they will be fully  aware of the operation timescales.

untitled1Composite bonding treatment requires the cosmetic dentist to numb the area in the patients mouth by local anaesthetic.
The patients tooth surface, which the composite will be applied, will be cleaned to remove debris, the composite requires
a hygienic surface to bond to. The dentist will then choose a correct shade of composite, the tooth is shaped or contoured by the dentist.
The composite is then applied to the roughened tooth surface and exposed to a special light source, which activates and hardens the composite to set. The composite can be applied to a patients tooth in several thin layers , around 1mm-2mm until  the dentist has achieved the desired shape, translucency and texture. The dentist will then use their skill to polish the composite to achieve the desired shape and level finish.

How dental implants dramatically improve a smile.

Teeth  can be lost at any time, due to trauma, decay, gum disease , age or deep root canals could force a dentist to decide to remove a tooth rather than repair. Many people who lose a tooth or teeth decide to replace it/them with either dentures or a fixed bridge in order to regain an aesthetically pleasing smile , as well as functional reasons.

Increasingly dental implants are becoming a popular treatment to replace any missing teeth, as they are able to provide a patient a longer term solution, slow bone loss and also preserve any healthy tooth tissue for a patient.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are artificial substitute for the root portion of a patients natural tooth, it is fixed and secured into a patients jaw-bone to support a crown, or bridge , and can also be used to fastened a patients denture securely.  New technology in implants means that titanium can now be used for this procedure, a material that not only is well tolerated by a patients jaw bone and is able to integrate easily.

During the securing of the dental implant, the cosmetic dentists’ goal is to achieve a close seal between the implant and the surrounding jaw bone tissue, so they are able to fuse together , called osseointegration, which creates a secure support for the new teeth.

How is a dental implant placed?

The cosmetic dentist will need to assess the health of a patients teeth and gums, this is important as they need  to expose any signs of gum disease or decay , which must initially be treated. The cosmetic dentist should then create a treatment plan, following x-rays and a CT scan, which aids to asses bone quality before any treatment takes place. The implant procedure can be carried out using local anaesthesia, and IV sedation can be used the procedure will be long or for anxious patients.

The patients gum is cut and lifted, where the implant will be secured, and a tiny hole is drilled in the jawbone at the exact location of the intended implant. The titanium implant is securely fitted into this socket, and the dentist will then stitch the gum back to cover the implant.

Once the implant has been fitted, it is left to restore , heal and integrate with the patients jawbone , which  takes around six weeks to  six months. This time period allows the bone tissue to grow and anchor itself to the rough surface of the titanium implant.
The patient will be given temporary teeth or bridges, or can continue to wear dentures, during this healing period. The temporary teeth should not exert any pressure or force upon the healing implant(s). The gum will be then lifted again to attach a post to the implant, after the healing period. Around six weeks up to a month , depending upon treatment, when the surrounding gum tissue has developed, the permanent restoration can be attached to the patients implant.

Dental implants are also able to give a patient improved function, the implants are able to fully assimilate into a patients jaw, and so able they are able to function as suitably as your own natural teeth. Wearing dentures can make eating tough foods challenging, as dentures can become loose or patients cannot endure the hard biting forces, which cause pain in the gums.

Denture patients may suffer irritation and inflammation of the gums, to correct this dentures can be supported through implants which are able to improve function, enabling a patient to eat all foods with complete confidence and not worry about problems of bone loss or loose dentures.

A patient may require a cosmetic  dental bridge treatment, to replace missing teeth,  and this requires the healthy teeth adjacent to the gap to be removed to be able to fit a crown or bridge over the top of the tooth.

A dental implant can help a patient, as no support is required of a patients natural teeth , so a patients natural teeth wont be altered and the healthy tooth structure will not be drilled.images

An cosmetic dental implant gives a patient much better appearance then dentures or alternatives, as a dental implant Is identical from a patients natural teeth. Dentures often become loose, look unnatural as they don’t fit with a patients gums, and may need to be held onto the teeth with conspicuous metal clasps.

Dental implants are able to provide a patient with a much better cosmetic result, and are more functional than any nearest alternative.

Dental Implants are durable.

Dental implants have been used for many years to replace missing teeth, they are the most advanced technology available to replace missing teeth. Dental implants are able to last a lifetime, however the implant durability will be affected by trauma caused to patients, gum disease and poor oral hygiene.

Teeth correction through CEREC treatment

Many people may avoid cosmetic dental treatment as they view it as time consuming, although many      know it could  dramatically improve their appearance , so it is a catch 22 situation, people want to look good , but cannot spend excessive time attending appointments. CEREC treatment can restore a bridge, a crown or fit a veneer for a patient during a appointment. For the treatment, a dentists will need to take a digital image of the patients teeth, after this the dentist is able to immediately work on preparing a patients fitting.

The CEREC computer programme that designs the part for the patient, this is available for the dentist to fit and  secure instantly, and any problems with the fitting can be rectified during the appointment. This allows a patient  to walk out of the appointment, with a brand new white smile, and extra confidence. imagesCAQDXIYM

close up clean smile whiteDental veneers, also called laminates or porcelain veneers, are wafer-thin shells of tooth-coloured material that is bonded and secured onto the surface of teeth to dramatically improve their cosmetic appearance. They can be made of porcelain, ceramic, or composite material.

Veneers are often used to create a more aesthetically pleasing smile to allow create aligned, well-shaped, and a whitened smile. Veneers are able to cover and disguise worn enamel, cracks, misalignments, gaps, and stains. Veneers enable a patients teeth to look natural and healthy, they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond so very little preparation of the tooth is needed.

Porcelain veneers provide a natural, translucent-looking appearance. Composite veneers are less expensive than porcelain, they also tend to stain , they are less durable so need replacing more often their porcelain counterparts, so they cost more in the long run. Composite does work well for repairing small damage for patients teeth, porcelain veneers are stronger and more durable than composite, making them vastly more popular. Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth.

A cosmetic dentist should be able to discuss the best choice of dental veneer material with you, and the most suitable treatment plan.

Technology in veneers is constantly advancing , Lumineers are a special type of ultra-thin veneers by Cerinate. They are similar to porcelain veneers as they can cover gaps between teeth to enhance the appearance of discoloured teeth. The main difference is that Lumineers are made from a special patented cerinate porcelain that is very strong but much thinner than traditional porcelain veneers.

The main advantage of these ultra-thin veneers is that they require very minimal tooth preparation , so very little of your natural tooth needs to be removed before bonding the Lumineers over a patients’ natural teeth. The procedure enables a patients natural tooth is left intact, unlike traditional veneers, where a dentist needs to remove some of a patients tooth structure.

Telescopic overdentures with cercon primary coping and gold galvano secondary coping

Overdenture treatment provides an esthetic and functional result that allows proper access for hygiene and maintenance. In addition, with their improved strength, zirconia ceramics may be used to restore removable partial denture abutments in areas previously limited to metal or metal-ceramic restorations. The electroforming process makes for a viable, convenient, and economic alternative to cast metal substructures. However, limited data are available on the use of telescopic crowns on implants. Compared with the use of fixed implant-supported dentures, this treatment modality may improve esthetics and oral hygiene access, reduce the need for implants, and provide sufficient denture support in cases where single abutments have failed. Furthermore, the high retention obtained with telescopic crowns leads to good mastication and phonetics.

The social occasions which you engage in can be made so much easier if you feel confident about your smile. Your smile is one of the first things that a person will see when talking to you and can be used to make other people feel at ease. There are many reasons why you might feel embarrassed about your smile, such as having misaligned teeth, unsightly metal fillings or a crooked smile but they can all be solved by dentists offering cosmetic dentistry techniques.

The procedures which comprise cosmetic dentistry are many and varied. Veneers , crowns and fillings can be fitted, your gums can be reshaped and your teeth whitened. Thanks to advances in technology, these processes are far speedier than they were in the past. Widely used CEREC techniques allow veneers to be constructed and fitted in just one session at your dentist by utilising 3D images to examine your teeth.

These techniques can be combined and carried out in conjunction to make a ‘smile makeover’ package. For example you may wish to have a metal filling replaced using the more discreet finish of cosmetic bonding at the same time as have a porcelain veneer over a broke down tooth. CEREC allows these processes to be carried out with incredible speed and you probably won’t even have to wear inconvenient temporary veneers while you wait.

Many of these techniques are far more affordable than many people think. The technology used, while being cutting edge, actually mean that some of the more expensive aspects of dental treatment in the past have been eradicated. Interest free payment plans can be taken up to decrease the burden of cost. Contact your  dentist today for more information about cosmetic dentistry procedures.
